you are exactly where
you are supposed to be.
This is an opportunity to meet yourself exactly as you are without judgment or expectations. A way to connect with your breath and body, a gateway to uncover your soul and the inner light within. We move with unconditional love to discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Yoga is a physical and spiritual science. Current is experimentation with observation. We prize inward exploration over outward perfection. We find confidence in discomfort. We believe in the impermanence of all things; that the only constant in life is change. That this moment, right now, is exactly where you are supposed to be. We are here to help you get out of the thinking mind and into the feeling body with classes designed to bring more awareness, balance, and love into your life so you can continuously transform into the next best version of yourself.
Welcome to your sangha. We are glad you are here.
Class Offerings
Vinyasa
Physically intense, emotionally liberating.
A marriage of breath and movement resulting in a music driven, energetic flow designed to turn your focus inward and explore your individual practice. This class will shift your consciousness by taking you through dynamic sequences of hip and heart openers, inversions, and twists connecting you deeper to your physical, mental, and spiritual self. Be prepared to follow along for the first few classes and settle in knowing that your teachers, and community, are here to support you.
Surrender
Breathe into sensation, exhale to deep release.
This highly therapeutic class is designed to dig deep into the connective tissue. Students will hold passive postures for an extended period of time, about 3-7 minutes, to strengthen flexibility and mobility. Meditative breathing is employed to calm the mind and delve deeper within.
Slow Burn
Intentional movements, expanded awareness.
This practice was originally developed by Jonny Kest to alleviate back pain as well as to integrate a deep inward focus. A slower paced practice with grounding sequences and longer holding postures make it a great starting point for those new to yoga looking to build a foundation while discovering how their body moves with their breath. Students are encouraged to close their eyes when practicing in order to really focus on the breath and the energy moving from within.
Ashtanga Remix
Ancient practice, fresh take.
The Ashtanga Primary and Intermediate series, remixed. Enjoy the core structure and principles of Ashtanga while remixing the postures to form a new sequence of asanas. This physically demanding practice challenges you to find balance between discipline and creativity. Great for those looking to gain a deeper understanding of the vinyasa yoga system.
Discover the connection between breath and body.
About Ashley
Ashley has been practicing yoga since 2008 and teaching since 2012 when she learned directly from Jonny Kest his unique style of vinyasa yoga. Bringing compassion and empathy to each class she teaches, she encourages each student to move and breathe in a way that is most natural for them creating an opportunity to connect deeper to whats happening inside, rather than outside. Her energetic sequences of postures are designed to create internal body heat that promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing.
“The only limitations that exists are the ones you are putting on yourself. What walls have you built for protection? Are you letting them become your prison? ”
— Ashley Danford
The Lineage
Jonny Kest
Jonny Kest has been living and teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for over three decades. He is known for his compassionate, yet disciplined teaching style which encourages students to “get out of their own way” and allow one’s own healing powers to inspire each practice. Jonny founded the ‘Center of Yoga’ in Birmingham, MI in 1993 introducing a new style of Ashtanga Vinyasa to the world. Ashley completed her Yoga teacher training with Jonny in the Summer of 2012 at the Center and continues her studies with Jonny to this day. She currently holds 500 training hours with him.
David Williams
In 1973, David began learning Ashtanga yoga from K. Pattabhi Jois at his home in Mysore, India, and became the first non-Indian to be taught the complete Ashtanga yoga system of asanas and pranayama directly from Jois. In 1974, David became one of the first non-Indians to be certified to teach the Ashtanga yoga asanas and one of the very few people ever certified by Jois to teach the Ashtanga Yoga Pranayama. David introduced K. Pattabhi Jois to America and is directly responsible for teaching the Ashtanga yoga system to Jonny Kest at the age of 12 in Maui, HI.
K. Pattabhi Jois
An Indian yoga teacher and Sanskrit scholar, Pattabhi Jois developed and popularized the vinyasa (meaning to link breath with movement) style of yoga referred to as Ashtanga yoga. In 1948 he established the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institue in Mysore, India, coining the early morning disciplined ‘Mysore’ practice.
“Your practice only becomes a yoga practice when it weakens the tremendous amount of attachment in your life and allows you to unlock the healing powers of your breath.”
— Jonny Kest
